The Battle of Fort Reno: Washington City Paper Article on How a Black Community was Pushed Out

3900 Block of Devenport St. NW in the 1930s, a National Park Service photograph used in the Washington City Paper story. These homes, long gone, are now a soccer field and a community garden, according to the City Paper article.

This article by Neil Flanagan in the Washington City Paper, published Nov. 2, 2017, tells the story about how neighbors and developers used a plan for a park to push a long-established African American community out. Read it here.
